Belgians at the Winter Paralympic Games

12/03/2026

A small Belgian delegation is taking part with great enthusiasm and ambition in the Paralympic Games in Cortina.

More than 600 athletes from around fifty countries are gathering in Italy for this essential sporting and human event that the Paralympic Games have represented since their beginnings in Örnsköldsvik (Sweden) exactly 50 years ago.
On the programme of this 14th edition of Milano Cortina 2026, bringing together the world’s best athletes for nine days of competition, are six disciplines: para‑biathlon, para‑ice hockey, wheelchair curling, para‑cross‑country skiing, para‑snowboard and para‑alpine skiing.

Belgium, despite its relatively limited involvement in winter sports, is represented by a delegation focusing exclusively on the alpine skiing events. Maximilien Seeger, accompanied by his guide Jérémy Mestdagh, along with Jérémie Prégardien and Marte Goosen, the youngest member of the group at 16 years old, will form the Belgian quartet on the slopes of Cortina.

According to Olek Kasimirowski, head of the Belgian delegation:
“We have three competing athletes, and even four if we include guide Jérémy. This is a real satisfaction, especially since they are taking part in the Paralympic Games for the first time. It shows that a new wind is blowing through our movement, with ambitious young athletes who could go beyond Cortina. In previous editions, several athletes ended their sporting careers right after the Games, for various personal reasons. Today, we are seeing a real renewal, and that is very positive.”

All our encouragement to these athletes who are living an intense experience in the Italian Alps!
