Alexander Blockx caused a sensation in Melbourne by winning the Australian Open Juniors Championships, a victory that will undoubtedly mark the beginning of a brilliant career for this budding talent.

The young Belgian beat his opponents one after the other throughout the week, showing an impressive determination and mastery of the game for his age. His final win over American Learner Tien was particularly convincing, with a close tiebreaker that highlighted his technical and mental skills. He won this Grand Slam final 6-1, 2-6, 7-6 (11/9).

Prior to this, Alexander Blockx had already reached the quarterfinals of the US Open Junior Championships in 2022. He gave Belgium a third junior singles final in the last four Grand Slam tournaments after Gilles Arnaud Bailly lost at the French Open and the US Open in 2022.

Apart from the wheelchair tennis victories of Joachim Gérard and those of Elise Mertens in doubles, Kimmer Coppejans was the last Belgian to win a Grand Slam tennis title, in the junior championship at Roland-Garros in 2012.

Tennis experts agree that this young player has a promising future, and it will be interesting to follow his progress over the years, just like that of Gilles Arnaud Bailly, the world's number 1 junior.

Belgian fans can be proud to have a new champion.
