Belgian ultra athlete breaks free-throw world record
Mathieu Bonne, an extraordinary Belgian athlete who already has numerous world records to his name, has recently added one to his growing list of achievements, that is for the most free-throws in 24 hours.

The previous record stood at 21,001 successful free throws, so the West-Flemish lifeguard had his work cut out for him. He trained for “two to three months” and gained ten kilogrammes to build sufficient top-body muscle mass to bring this challenge to a successful close.
As we now already know, it paid off, as he beat the record with a good two hours to spare. The 31-year-old pushed through and finished his 24-hour session of shooting hoops with 22,118 successful free throws.
His whole body was hurting, but he pushed on through because, in his own words, “basketball is my passion. And it’s something totally different from my other challenges.”
Those include completing eight triathlons in eight days, cycling 3,619.72 kilometres in seven days, swimming 131 kilometres without stopping, and running nearly 1,050 kilometres in six days.
We can’t wait to see which challenge he crushes next.
