A Belgian golfer wins the 2025 Phoenix Open
He had been waiting for it for so long, and now he’ has done it! The Belgian golfer Thomas Detry won the Phoenix Open tournament by a landslide, a victory that is symbolic for Belgium in two ways.
At the age of 5, Thomas Detry was already passionate about golf, a popular sport. Although he has been a professional golfer since 2016, the 32-year-old sportsman from Brussels had never won any tournament before, despite his excellent performances. His perseverance has finally paid off, as he has just won his first professional golf tournament with a 7 shot gap, and not just any tournament. The PGA Tour is a world-renowned and highly coveted men's professional golf circuit held every year in the United States. During this sporting event, several tournaments are organised, including the Phoenix Open in Scottsdale, Arizona, which he won. During this competition, Thomas Detry was up against some of golf's most emblematic sports figures, such as Scottie Scheffler and Hideki Matsuyama, but he managed to keep his cool and make his mark.
This victory is doubly symbolic, as he officially enters the history of Belgian golf as the first Belgian sportsman to have won a tournament on the prestigious American circuit.
