The World Para Athletics Championship held in Dubai between 7 and 15 November was a success for Belgian athletes. In fact, our delegation secured four medals, one gold, two silver and one bronze.

The Belgians who attended Dubai shone in three different disciplines:

The athlete Peter Genyn won gold in the 200 metres. He also managed to secure second place in the T51 100 metres. He lost to Finland's Toni Piispanen who ran a new world record with a time of 20.33 seconds.

Gitte Haenen also made a name for herself in two different disciplines, finishing second in the long jump and third in the 100 metres.

This competition also enabled the athlete David Delespesse to improve his personal best in the 800 metres with a time of 1 minute 4.44 seconds, even though he failed to claim a place on the podium.

Other athletes in Dubai also enjoyed an excellent championship, including Basile Meunier who finished 16th in the 1500 metres in 4 minutes 50.14 seconds, achieving a season's best. Similarly, Léa Bayekula (100m) beat her personal best in 17.58 seconds but narrowly missed the final.
