Amazing results for Belgium at the Tour de France 2025

29/07/2025

With six stage wins, Belgium's riders shone in the Grande Boucle.

Aside from the huge disappointment of the retirement of Remco Evenepoel, double Olympic champion in Paris, the Belgians kept up a strong presence throughout the three weeks of this 112th edition of the Tour de France.

The best image from the event will remain the victory of Wout van Aert, who masterfully saved his round by winning on the Champs-Élysées, as he did in the final stage in 2021. The Belgian rider produced one of his finest masterpieces on the ascent towards Montmartre and then continuing onto the world's most beautiful avenue, in a magnificent duel with Slovenian Tadej Pogacar.

History will also note that the first rider to don the yellow jersey in the 2025 event was Belgium's Jasper Philipsen, who won the first stage and took the green jersey in 2023.

Another Belgian, Tim Merlier, has two wins to his name. He was victorious in the sprint in Dunkirk on the third stage, then repeated the feat on the ninth stage over a 174-km route between Chinon and Châteauroux.

On the eve of 21 July, the national holiday, Tim Wellens gave Belgium a fifth stage win. The Belgian champion earned a solo victory on the 15th stage, a 169-km long stretch between Muret and Carcassone.

Despite his immense disappointment, in the face of his great ambitions, Remco Evenepoel proved once again that he is the master of the stopwatch. The Belgian won the fifth stage of the Grande Boucle in Caen in an individual time trial. In his long solo ride against no one but the stopwatch, the Olympic, world and Belgian champion of the discipline once again showed his speed and skill in managing the effort required.

In terms of stage wins, this year was even better than in 2024 and 2023 (5 wins each year) and matched the feat achieved in 2022!
