2023 Hockey Euro: Red Panthers and Red Lions on the podium

Although they were beaten in the final by the Dutch, the Belgian women's hockey team won a fine silver medal. In the men's competition, the Belgians overcame the Germans very well to claim the bronze medal.

At the 2023 European Hockey championship in Mönchengladbach, Germany, the women's national team was hoping to win the tournament and qualify directly for the next Olympic Games in Paris. But although the Red Panthers made it all the way to the final thanks to some fine performances, they were unable to realise their hopes.
Beaten 3-1 by a Dutch team that has been very dominant for years, the Belgian women hockey players still managed to repeat their 2017 success, taking home the title of European runners-up.
On the men's side, the Belgian hockey players have won so many international titles in recent years that they inevitably appear to be the favourites at the start of each competition. Admittedly, the Red Lions did not win at Euro 2023, but few nations can boast a 12th consecutive podium finish at a major tournament in Mönchengladbach.
Beaten 3-2 by the Dutch at the end of a very tight semi-final, the Belgians reassured themselves in the small final against the Germans, who were playing at home. Their 2-0 victory gave them another podium finish and a fine bronze medal.
Well done to our hockey players for their incredible performances on the international stage!
