OnTracx, a spin-off from Ghent University, combines science and technology in an innovative wearable device designed for running enthusiasts.
Worn on the ankle, this small, coin-sized device accurately measures the mechanical load placed on the body during your run and provides runners with information about their training load.
OnTracx, this spin-off from Ghent University, has set itself the mission of helping to prevent overuse injuries by measuring the mechanical load placed on joints, tendons and muscles whilst running. Via a connected app, runners receive immediate feedback in the form of a colour-coded system: green for an appropriate training load and red for an increased risk of overload.
This technological innovation is aimed primarily at runners with a history of injuries – a group comprising millions of people worldwide.
The Belgian company therefore aims to become a leading tool for injury prevention, for individual athletes as well as for professional coaches and fitness trainers.
The University of Ghent is thus demonstrating how research can lead to practical applications with significant societal value, helping to usher in a new era in injury prevention and sports technology.
