Classic consultations and experiments with medical apps or smart watches only show a snapshot in time. However, the medically certified bracelet offered by Hospital Maria Middelares in Ghent allows patients to be monitored 24/7 at home after heart surgery. It automatically transmits vital parameters to a specialist care team for daily follow-up and faster intervention if necessary. A world first!
A patient prefers nothing more than to recover and regain strength at home following heart surgery, something now made easier by this unique wearable technology. Heart rate, respiratory rate, oxygen saturation, body temperature, and blood pressure are the key values that are continuously recorded and transmitted by this smart bracelet. The data is then evaluated and discussed during a weekly consultation between a specialist nurse and the patient. Data-driven insights and practical tips promote more rapid recovery.
Moreover, innovation and technological advances will fundamentally move healthcare, as we know it today, toward more patient-centred phygital care outside the hospital, combining physical contact with digital follow-up. It is safe to say that this first by Maria Middelares marks a milestone in that transition.
