Ghent University launches new brewery
Ghent University and HOGENT have opened a new brewery together...for research purposes, naturally.
The brewery has been given the catchy name of Innovation Centre for Brewery and Fermentation. On the one hand, students will brew a 7% abv blonde beer, Bijloke. On the other hand, they “are doing a lot of research into NAB/LAB beers,” which means beers with little or no alcohol, which are “based on a fermentation process with alternative yeasts and grains.”
In doing so, they are following demand, as more and more consumers want beers with low alcohol content, even though the brewers still prefer to use alcohol as its effect on taste is a significant one.
Whether you drink a Bijloke, a non-alcoholic beer or any of the wide array of Belgian beers on the market, enjoy responsibly!
