Belgium in top 10 best countries in terms of internet speed

20/07/2018

Belgium is the 6th best country in the world when it comes to internet speed. This was confirmed by a study by the British website cable.co.uk, which compared the internet speed in 200 different countries.

The study, carried out for the second consecutive year between June 2017 and May 2018, involved over 163 million tests. Last year, Belgium achieved a commendable 8th position, but this year we scored even better, with an average download speed of 36.71 megabits per second (Mbps).

The best-ranking countries are Singapore (60.39 Mbps) in first place, followed by Sweden (46.00 Mbps), Denmark (43.99 Mbps), Norway (40.12 Mbps) and Romania (38.60 Mbps). In these five countries the download speed is a grand total of 40 times faster than in the five lowest scoring countries. Yemen ends the list with a download speed of 0.31 Mbps.

But what do these scores actually mean? In Belgium it would take you 18 minutes and 36 seconds to download an HD film of 5 GB, in top-ranking Singapore 11 minutes and 18 seconds whilst in Yemen the download would take you a day and a half.
