Belgium is leading the green hydrogen revolution in Europe

30/01/2026

Belgium continues to be an international leader in green hydrogen, with multiple projects backed by the EU contributing to a remarkable growth.

For years now, Belgium has been proving itself to be a bona fide green hydrogen hub, with all kinds of initiatives flourishing. Various EU initiatives have allowed the country to become a key player, scale up production and set up the infrastructure required to share it with neighbouring countries.

The latest novelties include the GIGA-SCALES initiative, allowing for mass production of alkaline electrolysers – a cornerstone technology in the production of green hydrogen, which is achieved by the electrolysis of water through the means of renewable energy. In addition, the initiative manages to do this with minimal waste. In Namur, meanwhile, a 10-hectare green oasis is being turned into Europe’s first commercial hydrogen solar park. Finally, infrastructure and logistics are constantly being improved to allow greater and easier access to the use of this green solution.

May Belgium continue to lead the way in this energetic revolution.
