Belgian Alzheimer blood test approved in USA
A Belgian-developed test to detect Alzheimer’s disease is the first to be approved by the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

The blood test in question was developed by Fujirebio Europe at the so-called Technology Park in Zwijnaarde near Ghent.
The fact that this is the first FDA approved test for tracing Alzheimer underlines Belgium’s leadership position in research when it comes to the disease – a worldwide recognition of quality, so to speak.
The blood test could make it possible to trace Alzheimer’s disease long before any symptoms even appear, with no need for things like a brain scan or a spinal tap.
Researchers are constantly expanding their knowledge of the illustrious illness, so while the blood test is of course not a cure, it’s a big step towards a better future with early diagnoses and hopefully better treatment.
The test in question may have been developed in Zwijnaarde, but research into the condition is being conducted all across the country, from KU Leuven to the University of Brussels.
Did you know about the Belgian expertise in this particular form of dementia that hits roughly 10 million people a year?
