An all-new fossil-free greenhouse in Leuven
The university of Leuven have cut the ribbon on their brand-new greenhouse that has all the bells and whistles needed for a sustainable functioning.
The greenhouse complex will be used by bio-engineering and biology students and for all kinds of innovative research into, well, anything that would grow in a greenhouse. The goal is to produce and protect crops in more sustainable ways.
It is powered by heat pumps, solar panels and green electricity, and its water supply comes straight from the sky into a massive pond.
The booming university’s previous greenhouse had become to small for their growing research needs. Its new facility makes up 3,360 square metres and has dozens of separate sections that each have their own climatological circumstances for optimal growth.
Let’s hope this incredible new greenhouse complex can become fertile ground for the latest top-notch bio research, planting the seed for a more sustainable future.
