During the summer months, the annual art festival Watou invites the public for the 39th time to come and discover the work of writers, poets, visual artists and other performers from home and abroad. As always, the programme is surprisingly extensive and varied.
The 2019 theme is twofold. On the one hand, the experience festival revolves around Saudade, a Portuguese term that refers to a feeling of sadness or melancholy. On the other hand, Watou has chosen a quote from the novel Bezonken Rood (Sunken Red) by Jeroen Brouwers ‘Niets bestaat dat niet iets aanraakt (Nothing exists that does not touch something else)’.
From 29 June until 2 September, young and old can experience how Stefaan De Croock, Joseph Klibansky and Marion Moskowitz, among others, share their interpretation of the themes with the public. There is a special trail for children with interactive activities. In addition, a smartphone app has been developed this year to inform visitors about the entire Watou programme.
