The world’s largest electronics event aimed at the general public was held virtually this year. But the Innovation Award won by the small company from Namur is very real.
The Consumer Electronics Show (CES) is usually held in Las Vegas each January. Considered to be the largest gathering of all the global players in the electronic industry, the 2021 edition of the event was held online due to the global health crisis. This event is an opportunity to recognise the most innovative players in the sector, and the Belgian start-up Sunrise really stood out by winning the “Innovation Award”.
The young company from Namur, with roughly fifteen employees, has developed a medical device for people suffering from sleep disorders.
The Sunrise sleep device allows patients to test themselves at home without having to go through the hospital services, as is usually the case. A sensor weighing just 3 grams is placed on the chin and connected to a mobile app and after a night’s sleep, the patient and doctor receive a detailed report of the micro-movements generated during the night.
This very efficient process has already been marketed in three European countries over the past year (Belgium, France and the UK) and negotiations with American authorities are currently underway.
