Three Michelin stars

Even in these particularly challenging times for restaurateurs, the famous Michelin Guide continues to award the best restaurants. As a result, Belgium now boasts a second three-starred chef.

Viki Geunes has now joined the galaxy of gastronomical stars alongside his colleague Peter Goossens who, until now, held the keys to the only three-star restaurant, Hof van Cleve in Kruisem (East Flanders). Geunes, 48, runs Zilte, located on the top floor of the Museum aan de Stroom (MAS) in Antwerp since 2011.

"Having further refined both his restaurant and the dishes he serves, retaining only their very essence, Viki Geunes is now a master in his field," according to the commentary of the Michelin Guide, which describes a menu that invites you to "a truly emotional experience."

This ultimate accolade is an astonishing tribute to a self-taught man who, with a degree in industrial science, managed to draw on his personal experiences, especially his travels, to develop a culinary universe that is entirely his own. Inspired by the exceptional water views from his restaurant, Viki Geunes offers a menu based on fish, shellfish and crustaceans.

Having achieved every chef’s ultimate dream, all he now hopes is that he can reopen his doors to lovers of fine food very soon.
