World Athletics Championships: Two splendid silver medals for Belgium

26/03/2026

Eliott Crestan once again clinched the silver medal in the 800 m, just like the Belgian Tornados in the final of the 4 × 400 m, adding yet another medal to their impressive record.

Eliott Crestan took second place in the 800 m final at the World Indoor Championships in Torun. The athlete from Namur secured his third consecutive medal at an indoor world championship. With a time of 1:44.38, he missed out on the gold by only 14 hundredths. The title went to the American Cooper Lutkenhaus, only 17 years old (1:44.24). Spain’s Mohamed Attaoui completed the podium in 1:44.66.

In the final of the 4 × 400 m, Jonathan Sacoor, Christian Iguacel, Julien Watrin and Alexander Doom also claimed the silver medal. The Belgian Tornados thus recorded their 23rd medal in 39 international finals. Always present when it matters, the Belgian relay teams continue to add to their rich list of achievements. Twice crowned world indoor champions, our compatriots could not overcome a strong American team led by world record holder Khaleb McRae.

The Tornados therefore bring a third medal to the Belgian delegation at these World Indoor Championships in Torun, following the mixed 4 × 400 m world title and Eliott Crestan’s silver in the 800 m.
