Prestigious Brussels hotel reopens after decade and a half
The Astoria, one of the most prestigious hotels in Brussels has opened its doors to guests again.
Built way back in the early 1900s on Rue Royale – at a stone’s throw from the Royal Palace --, the Hotel Astoria has housed a wide and impressive range of guests, from the genius painter Salvador Dalí to Andy Warhol, the great Bob Dylan, the late Japanese Emperor Hirohito and Winston Churchill.
In many ways, the hotel has been restored to its former glory, boasting the same colours as it did when it opened and with a replica of its original glass cupola.
Its initial purpose was to receive guests for the 1910 World’s Fair, which took place that year from 23 April to 1 November. Other remnants of that fair include the nearby Mont Des Arts and the main building of the ULB Solbosch campus.
In addition to sleeping the most esteemed guests from every corner of the world, the hotel also boasts all the other bits and bobs you’d expect from a luxury hotel, such as a spa, a fitness, and two restaurants with star chefs at the helm, promising “a trip through Belgian gastronomy”.
We’ve heard that various film and music stars have already booked rooms for the summer.
