The Perrette chocolate bar is back!

20/03/2017

In 1905 Meurisse, the first major chocolate factory in Antwerp and by extension Belgium, released the country's very first chocolate bar, the legendary Perrette bar. Back then, the only place you could go in order to enjoy the smooth and delicious chocolate taste of Meurisse's most popular product was World's Fair in Liege. For a long time the bar was a great success, but due to globalisation and repeated takeovers in the chocolate sector the Perrette was forever shelved in 1986. Or so we thought, until when, early March 2017, during 'Antwerp Chocolate Week', the non-profit organisation Antwerpen Koekenstad decided to bring the Perrette back onto the market using an original recipe.

During Antwerp Chocolate Week Perrette was available from DelRey and Lints, both well-known names in the field of chocolate & confectionery in Antwerp. Now other chocolatiers and confectioners in Antwerp will have the chance to sell the Perrette bar. The rights to the brand name and the product itself became available and so Lints used this as an opportunity to apply for a patent.

The idea to then bring out a chocolate bar came as a result of high cocoa prices. Making bars with less cocoa was not an option, as this would affect the flavour, so in the end it was decided to make the bars smaller.

This tasty treat, wrapped in the familiar traditional red packaging, will soon be making mouths water once again!
