This is not a white beer

Bowler hats, umbrellas, pipes... just a few things that are indissociably linked with Rene Magritte's paintings. Beer... not so much. In fact, you'd be hard pressed to find it in the surrealist artist's work. And yet the Magritte Museum will soon launch a beer that is named after the Belgian painter.

This year marks the fiftieth anniversary of the death of René Magritte. After enjoying one of several exhibitions that pay tribute to the artist, you can also treat your taste buds to a unique beer. The Magritte Museum has partnered with the Brussels-based Brasserie de la Senne brewery to create a brew that has all the flavour of a white beer, but looks like a dark ale. This all sounds very surreal, which explains the link with Magritte who enjoyed the odd pint now and then in pubs like Het Goudblommeke in Papier / La Fleur de Papier doré or Greenwich.

From 1 October 2017, a limited edition of the Witte van/de Magritte is available from the museum café or from the Magritte shop in the Royal Museums of Fine Arts of Belgium.
