Julie Nullens, best bartender in Belgium

A barmaid has won the competition organised within the profession, and will represent Belgium at the global level in Cuba next November.

Organised by the Union of Belgium's Bartenders (UBB), the best bartender contest was won this year by a barmaid from Sprimont in the province of Liège. Julie Nullens has received national recognition for her work in her mobile establishment. "Le bar à Ju" has been set up in a trailer. It travels to different events, and her cocktails with home-designed syrups have won over more than a few connoisseurs since 2018.

After graduating from the Ecole Hôtelière in Spa, Julie Nullens first worked as a barmaid in Luxembourg. Then, after three years managing the kitchen of a restaurant in Aubel, she decided to launch her own mobile concept that allowed her to devote herself to her great passion, which is creating cocktails.

Her third entry into the great competition of the bartending profession was finally the right one. The jury of professionals was won over by her speed of execution when creating her original cocktail based on Calvados, pear liqueur with Armagnac, lemon juice and coke, all flavoured with a tobacco syrup that she prepared herself and some would consider to have an aroma similar to whisky.

As the Belgian winner, the young bartender from Sprimont will leave in November to defend Belgian expertise at global level in the land of Daiquiris and Mojitos.
