Increasing numbers of electric cars in Belgium
Over 30% of new car registrations in Belgium are 100% electric vehicles. No other European country does it better!
Although the proportion of 100% electric car sales (battery electric vehicles, also known as BEVs) has fallen over the past year in Europe as a whole, it has continued to rise in Belgium.
The figures show that Belgium is an exception. Looking at the new car market alone, sales of BEVs rose by 44.2% in Belgium, while among our neighbouring countries, they stagnated in France (+1%), rose slightly in the Netherlands (+8.9%) and collapsed in Germany (-36%).
For 2024, focusing on new registrations up to July, 12.1% of these were BEVs across Europe, while in Belgium, the proportion of 100% electric vehicles reached 30.2%.
For company cars, no less than 85.7% of purchases in the first half of 2024 were 100% electric vehicles. This trend is largely due to tax, because the purchase of electric cars in Belgium is highly tax-deductible.
With these figures to back it up, Belgium can pride itself on being a leader in the transformation of its vehicle fleet, serving to benefit the environment and combat global warming.
