Horst castle has a new spire
Did you know that the castle of Horst (in the province of Flemish Brabant) has a brand-new spire?

Castle Horst was built in the 15th century, so it makes sense that this middle-aged real estate would need a touch-up sooner or later. The new spire is part of a major renovation project. It had been removed in 2020 because it was not stable enough, and the whole building was scaffolded.
Four years later, at the end of 2024, the proud citizens of Holsbeek (dozens of whom are contributing in some form or another towards restoring the castle) can once again gaze upon a spire, a quarter of which is made from the original tower’s wood.
Interestingly, an image strongly associated with the castle is that of a very visible tear in one of the walls. The renovating team has chosen to repair the tear but keep it visible, “like a scar from the past.”
The works will continue up until 2027, including restoration of another tower and various interior fixes. You could say the castle of Horst wasn’t renovated in a day!
