Ghislaine Nuytten, the first Belgian supermodel to have an international career, worked for some of the biggest names in fashion, including Giorgio Armani, Jean-Paul Gaultier and Gianni Versace.

Born on 17 September 1954 in Wervik, a town in West Flanders, she began her modelling career in 1977 after winning a modelling contest organised by Dutch women's magazine Viva.

In the 1980s, as the face of the "Dit is Belgisch" (This is Belgian) campaign, Ghislaine Nuytten mainly showcased the work of the Belgian designers known as the "Antwerp Six". For 12 years, from 1985 to 1997, she presented the fashion programmes "Blikvanger" and "Look" for the former BRT (Dutch-speaking Belgian radio and television). She also hosted the "lifestyle" section on Radio Donna. More recently, she was on the jury for several seasons of talent-seeking reality shows "Topmodel" and "Benelux' Next Top Model" on the private Flemish channel VTM.

The icon and fashion journalist Ghislaine Nuytten, who embodied class, simplicity, kindness and cool, passed away on 19 January 2022, at the age of 67, after suffering from heart problems.
