Fries Museum opens its doors in the heart of Brussels

08/05/2025

Belgians are very proud of their fries, the jewel in the crown of Belgian gastronomy, and so are we at FOB. Recently, Brussels opened its own museum dedicated to that noble tuber, the potato, just two steps away from two other icons, the Grand-Place and Manneken Pis.

Bruges had already got in first by creating its own fries museum back in 2008 and now Brussels has jumped on the proverbial fries bandwagon too. With its audio guide available in 11 languages, the Fries Museum explains the entire history, culture and traditions surrounding this typically Belgian delicacy. Transforming potatoes into fries that are cooked to perfection, in other words, deliciously crispy on the outside and soft and creamy on the inside, requires knowledge, skill and experience. Visitors to the museum will learn all about that in a playful and interactive way, with a generous helping of folklore and anecdotes on top. Of course, no visit would be complete without a free tasting, so that everyone can draw on a wealth of basic knowledge to make sure that the fries they prepare at home are absolutely delicious, and nothing less.

Call by the museum soon to take in a piece of the national intangible cultural heritage of Belgium located on three floors at Rue de l'Étuve 26-28 in the heart of Brussels.
