Four Belgian cheeses from the Belgian cheese manufacturer 'De Kazerij' were confirmed to be a cut above the rest at the World Cheese Awards 2016. Two cheeses were even selected as the world's best golden cheeses.

So Belgium is not only the land of beer, chocolate and waffles after all. Our cheeses are also taking the world by storm. During the World Cheese Awards 2016 held in the Spanish town of San Sebastián the Belgian cheese manufacturer ‘De Kazerij’ took home no less than four awards. Both Flandrien Oud and Flandrien Grand Cru were awarded the ‘Super Gold’ label by the international jury. This means that these two cheeses are now named among the world's best golden cheeses. Jeuness Light and Frontieren also won a silver and golden medal respectively in their categories.

It is not the first time that cheeses from ‘De Kazerij’ have won a prize. Flandrien Kaas also won a gold medal at the World Cheese Awards in 2014, despite the fact that De Kazerij only started making golden cheese in 2013. We may be a young cheese maker but we certainly take quality very seriously. We produce using traditional methods with milk from local farmers and have the greatest Belgian cheese masters in our team,” confirms Jan Desmet, managing director.
