An F1 driver’s take on Belgian food
Formula 1 driver Valtteri Bottas has answered an age-old question regarding which Belgian food tastes better: vol-au-vent or carbonnade.
Belgian brothers Average Rob and Arno the Kid (real names Robert and Arno Van Impe) took none other than Finnish racing driver Valtteri Bottas for a culinary tour of our country and made him settle a debate that every Belgian has an opinion on.
In fact, the brothers don’t even agree on which is tastier. Rob notoriously loves vol-au-vent (a hollow pastry stuffed with chicken, little meatballs, mushrooms and a creamy sauce, in case you didn’t know), whereas his younger brother likes carbonnade, also known as stoofvlees (a meat stew made with Belgian beer).
The F1 driver was first presented with vol-au-vent and, judging by his reaction, he already had his mind made up...but then came the carbonnade, and Bottas was quick to choose the traditional meat stew over the hearty creamy dish.
What about you? Are you team Stoofvlees or team Vol-au-Vent, or does some other Belgian food strike your fancy more?
