European whisky in the jar, thanks to a Belgian

03/10/2024

A Belgian businessman has reached out to distillers from Belgium and the Netherlands to create the first European whisky.

Sure, distillers all over the continent have been making whisky for years, but now a Belgian man, Hubert Coussement, whose usual business has nothing to do with liquor, has gotten together two hot shots who know their way around the hard stuff (remember, always drink responsibly).

The result is four limited-edition blends that can be called proper European and are based on rye and barley. Coussement hopes to later expand this idea beyond the Belgian and Dutch borders, and deeper into Europe.

Did you know that a Belgian whisky has been named the best whisky in Europe several times? What do you think, will this new, European whisky meet the same high standards?
