Discover the best Christmas markets of Belgium

Every year, the Christmas markets are an opportunity to taste local and seasonal products and stroll along enchanting lanes lined with wooden huts. Whether for tasting a few oysters, warming-up around a fire pit and enjoying a drink or buying Christmas presents, Belgians love this annual get together.

In Liege, the "Christmas Village" right in the city centre is bursting with entertainment featuring 200 exhibitors, an ice rink and even the Noélies de Liège, a projection of images and pictures depicting the story of Christmas at the very heart of the Cathedral. With its genuine village atmosphere, this market is welcoming and bustling with life (and mulled wine).

As for the residents of Ghent, they will enjoy their "Ghent Winter Festivities".  The pine forest, which is one of the star attractions at this market, is particularly popular with families and children. The market also offers the traditional classics with dutch gin, an ice rink and a Ferris wheel.

Brussels is still a must-visit with its "Winter Wonders". On this occasion, various activities are offered in the capital's centre to delight everyone, grown-ups or little ones. The Grand Place itself is enhanced by its sound and light show, with its traditional Christmas tree and nativity scene in the centre.

In Tournai, visitors can board a Christmas train for an enchanted journey or even meet Father Christmas and his friends. A magical show, Le Noël d’Anoki (Anoki's Christmas), is also presented in the cathedral. Even more original, the Tourist Office is putting the Star Wars characters on stage in its presentation "Father Christmas is a Jedi".

And finally, in Leuven, the "Leuven Christmas market" which lasts just two weeks, will leave you with an unforgettable memory. Whether for its fir forest where Father Christmas wisely awaits his young visitors or for its many craftsmen that can be seen at work, this market is a must-see.
