Belgian designer Diane von Fürstenberg’s work is back on the New York Fashion Week catwalk after ten years.
Armed with a new creative director for her brand DVF, the fashion icon said the company wants to “focus on our strengths, our origin and our philosophy.” Diane von Fürstenberg shot to fame in 1974, at the tender age of 28, when she debuted the now legendary wrap dress, and she was hailed as the most important female designer since Coco Chanel. The new DVF creations clearly evoke the past, with a reimagining of the wrap dress, bright colours and loud prints.
Let it be stated that the iconic Belgian designer still knows how to draw a crowd: her NYFW show attracted a veritable who’s-who of fashion including Vogue legend Anna Wintour.
Oh, and that wasn’t the only Belgian success story on the Fashion Week circuit. Fresh LVMH prize winner Julie Kegels was granted the honour of opening Paris Fashion Week with her collection Apple of the Day.
These are exciting times for Belgian fashion indeed!
