The Bourse is getting dizzy!

In 2018, a new attraction will appear in Brussels: a beer temple.

The Palais de la Bourse, currently used for exhibitions, will soon undergo major renovations and will become a public gallery in 2020.

This will result in three new entrances and a staircase being added to the existing structure, while the partitions and former offices used for administration will be removed. A total of 1,500 m² of exhibition space will then be used... for beer. The main focus will be on the enjoyment and experience of beer: the programme will include interactive experiences and visitors will be able to learn more about the drink that makes our country proud.

Although some consider this an original project, it has been criticised by others. A group of residents has launched a petition, "Save the Bourse", which has already gathered more than 2,750 signatures. This group claims that the project will damage the historic heritage of Brussels and fears an increase in party tourism.

However, according to the architect in charge of the project, the simplicity and original decors will remain. The project is not about removing the work of previous artists, but about supplementing their work and adding an extra layer to those that already exist.

The project, which is part-financed by Belgian brewers, is due to start in 2018 and will welcome its first visitors in 2020.
