Bib Gourmand 2018 welcomes 23 new Belgian addresses

22/11/2017

It is no longer necessary to present the Michelin Guide, which has given pride of place to its star-studded restaurants since 1926, making it the oldest food guide in the world. But do you know its "little brother", the Bib Gourmand? Launched in 1997, this annual award, presented a few days before the publication of the mythical guide, rewards the best small restaurants, including those in Benelux, etc.

The Bib Gourmand award is presented every year by Michelin Guide inspectors to restaurants that offer "exceptional good food at moderate prices". In concrete terms, the guide presents the gourmet restaurants that offer the best value for money for a 3-course menu for under €37. An award synonymous with a springboard: indeed, it is not unusual to see some Bib Gourmands later be awarded Michelin stars.

This year, about 23 Belgian restaurants have joined the famous guide: 13 of them in Wallonia and 8 in Flanders. The winners include, among others: Moment Gourmand in Tournai, La Cuisine de Yannick in Liège as well as Het Verschil in Lede and Schnitzel in Antwerp. In total, no fewer than 168 Belgian restaurants can be found in this new edition of the Bib Gourmand.

From regional cuisine to trendy bistro cuisine, all tastes are catered for at Bib Gourmand restaurants, the selected menus of which are available to be enjoyed on site or to be taken away. Due to the economic crisis, the Bib Gourmand award is increasingly popular with the general public that is looking for good quality cuisine at affordable prices.

The "Bib Gourmand 2018" guide will be on sale at all good bookshops from 23 November 2017.
