A grand total of 62 medals, this was the rich winnings with which the 21 Belgian police and fire officers returned from the World Police & Fire Games (WPFG), held this year from 6 to 16 August in Los Angeles.

These participants came from the rescue zones of Antwerp, Fluvia (grouping 15 West Flemish communities), Hainaut Centre and Flemish Brabant West. The Belgian delegation outperformed other in many different sporting challenges, ranging from taekwondo, karate, judo, swimming and rowing right down to Ultimate firefighter.

The WPFG is the world's second largest event for sports people after the Olympic Games. Over 8,000 police officers and fire brigade members from 70 countries all over the world compete in over 60 sport disciplines. Participants must also carry out tests designed especially for the fire brigade, and which they are required to perform wearing all their equipment.

The performance of our compatriots was slightly better in the 2015 edition in Washington, when they returned with 25 medals. At that time the Brussels fire brigade returned armed with 9 medals.
