VUB wins prizes at the MedCup 2022

09/11/2022

At this year's MedCup, the first international medical competition, two pairs of VUB students excelled in Brussels among more than 200 participants from some 40 Belgian and foreign universities.

The competition consisted of several theoretical and practical medical tests. Andreas Borremans and Christophe Sonck, third-year Master's students, amazed a jury of experts with their knowledge and skills in ophthalmology and intubation. This performance allowed them to reach the final. They also solved the theoretical questions and complex clinical cases of the final test with professionalism, outperforming their last French competitors.

They owe their success to their extensive training at the VUB, where the emphasis is on a strong practical orientation, a range of internships and a great deal of freedom of choice. They also owe it to their overlapping interests.Their final victory earned them a traveller's cheque for 1,000 euros. This is a great gift, especially considering that their original goal was just to have fun for two days, get a bit of extra work and get to know people.

Let's not forget that two other students in the third year of the Master's programme, Laure Ledegen and Marit Iliaans, were the best in medical imaging.

The MedCup is the place to compete in the field with other students and future professionals from around the world in various medical and paramedical specialisations and disciplines. And to do it in a fun way. Motivation and shared learning are essential.

A nice recognition for the VUB and for the quality of its medicine studies.
