According to a ranking by Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) the University of Antwerp (UAntwerpen) is the world's tenth best young university, which is three places higher than last year.

Each year, QS compiles a ranking of the world’s top 50 universities under 50 years old. The ranking is topped by the Nanyang Technological University of Singapore. The top six is made up entirely of Asian universities, which particularly excel in sciences, technology, architecture and maths.

The first European university, the University of Maastricht, is ranked in seventh place. Australia is the best represented country with ten universities, while Spain is the best European country with five universities appearing in the list.

The University of Antwerp was founded in 2003 following the merger of three institutions: the Rijksuniversitair Centrum Antwerpen, the Universitaire Faculteiten Sint-Ignatius Antwerpen and the Universitaire Instelling Antwerpen.
