Belgian designers Anthony Vaccarello and Matthieu Blazy are both nominated for Designer of the Year at the prestigious Fashion Awards set to be held on 30 November.
There’s a two in six chance that the designer deemed by the British Fashion Council to have had an exceptional influence on fashion in the past year comes from Belgium. Both men have learned their trade at the La Cambre fashion school in Brussels and work for some of the most important fashion houses in the world: Vaccarello has been the creative director for Saint Laurent since 2016, and Blazy has been Chanel’s artistic director since 2025.
It’s already been quite the year for Belgian fashion. Marie Adam-Leenaerdt won the Grand Prix d’ANDAM, and Julie Kegels won the LVMH prize. That should come as no surprise, considering the fact that La Cambre and the Antwerp Fashion Academy are among the most prestigious fashion schools in the word. Adam-Leenaerdt and Kegels are often mentioned in one breath with Meryll Rogge as the Belgian Three, a reference to perhaps the best-known designers Belgium has ever produced: the Antwerp Six.
We’ve got 30 November marked in our agendas, because we just can’t wait to find out who’s going to take home this prestigious award.
