Did you know that Belgium has some of the finest tram conductors in the world, based on results from the European Tramdriver Championship?
Now that the thrills of the Olympic and Paralympic Games are behind us, Brussels has proven itself a worthy competitor, with a silver medal for the team overall, and a gold medal for official best tram driver Ilhan.
The organisers of the competition tried to mirror real-life conditions and incorporate just about any value an award-winning tram driver should have, whether it regards safety (emergency braking), smoothness and super-accurate mastery of the vehicle as measured through, yes, tram billiards.
Fun fact: this isn’t Belgium’s first podium spot. In 2019, we took first place as a country and the best driver was from Brussels.
