Two Belgian cities among the happiest in the world
The newest Happy City Index is out, and two Belgian cities have made it onto the list.

The Happy City Index seeks to identify “a group of cities committed to cultivating and growing happiness, where education, inclusive policies, the economy, mobility” and various other factors “are not only important components of official policies but are also evident in the solutions implemented.” Themes like citizen leaders, governance, environment, economy, health, and mobility are used to tally up the score. Evidently, two Belgian cities fit the bill.
Coming in 19th place, outranking cities like Geneva, Porto and Barcelona, is Brussels. The fact that it’s in the top 30 means it has a gold label, just like Antwerp, which can boast a whopping fifth place.
This ranking comes in the same year as the World Happines Report’s conclusion that Belgians are happier than ever, reaching 14th place in the ranking for the first time.
We certainly get happy every time we see the city limits of either of these metropoles. Congratulations to Antwerp and Brussels for showing the gold standard for happiness, and may they rise even higher in the coming years.
