Raf Simons wins two awards in New York

Raf Simons, the recently appointed Creative Director of Calvin Klein, continues to climb to new heights! At the CFDA Awards held in New York, the Belgian won the awards for Menswear Designer of the Year and Womenswear Designer of the Year.

A few weeks ago, Focus on Belgium announced that the Limburg-born designer was ranked as one of the world's 100 most influential people (read the article). In early June, during the CFDA (Council of Fashion Designers of America) Awards, that took place in New York, his talent was recognised once again. Indeed, Raf Simons was named Designer of the Year for his menswear and womenswear collections. These are the two major awards presented during these Awards and a feat that was only achieved by Calvin Klein himself in 1993.

Through his two collections, Raf Simons wanted to convey a strong message: a protest against Donald Trump's anti-immigration policy, but always with subtlety! He opened his catwalk show with David Bowie's This is not America. His work is defined as a declaration of love for America, celebrating its diversity and its culture. After spending three years heading-up the luxury fashion brand, Christian Dior, Raf Simons joined the empire founded by Calvin Klein in January. Since then, it would seem that nothing can stop him: indeed, it only took a month for the New York fashion world to be at his feet with the presentation of a made-to-measure line for the famous brand in a superb fashion show.
