The Belgian fashion designer Raf Simons has won a CFDA Award again this year. He claimed his prize for best women's fashion designer.

The Council of Fashion Designers of America Awards are America's most important fashion awards. They are often referred to as the ‘Fashion Oscars’. The Fashion Guild, a group of over 1,500 fashion journalists, retailers and stylists, decide on the nominations and the winners.

Raf Simons won this year's prize for best women's fashion designer, which is also the most prestigious award. In 2017, Simons even managed to win two prizes, namely as the best designer of both men's and women's fashion. “Thank you women”, were his words as he received the prize from the hands of Cate Blanchett. Our Belgian pride is clearly much appreciated in the United States!

For years, Simons worked for the Paris-based fashion house Dior. Since 2016, he has worked as the creative director at Calvin Klein. The fashion designer is known for his straight and slender silhouettes, inspired by punk and gothic.

He was not the only Belgian to win a prize. Indeed, he was joined by the Belgian-American Diane von Furstenberg, who received the Swarovski Award for Positive Change. This award goes to American talent that has made a positive difference to the world of fashion.
