Belgian television is doing well and now has the awards to prove it, with VTM's “Hoe zal ik het zeggen?” continuing its success from Cannes at the WorldMediaFestival in Hamburg.

In the comedy programme “Hoe zal ik het zeggen?” (How shall I say it?), presenter Jens Dendoncker delivers messages to unsuspecting members of the public in an original format via a hidden camera. The programme was broadcast in autumn 2017 on VTM and is a Shelter production.

In April the programme was chosen as best new comedy format in Cannes and has recently followed up this success with more awards. It won the Gold Award in the category “Entertainment: Comedy” at the WorldMediaFestival in Hamburg, which automatically placed it on the shortlist for the Grand Prix Award, the festival’s most important prize. This was also one of the awards won by “Hoe zal ik het zeggen”, for a top performance that did not go unnoticed in the world of Belgian TV.

The WorldMediaFestival presents awards to the best international television programming from all branches of media. Hundreds of shows from across the globe are submitted to an international jury of leading communication professionals. Flemish shows such as “Het lichaam van Coppens”, “Wauters versus Waes”, “Tomtesterom”, “Wat Als?” and “Safety First” have been World Media Award winners in previous years.

The show is also looking to expand overseas, with interest in creating domestic versions coming from the Netherlands, the US, Italy, Spain and Norway. In Germany filming has already started, whilst in Belgium preparations are being made for the show's second season.
