Did you know about the Belgian-made metro station at the Paris Olympics?

18/07/2024

Belgian engineers supplied their know-how in the run-up to the Paris Olympics, providing the city with a brand-new metro station.

Hosting the Olympic Games obviously requires a certain amount of new infrastructure, and for the scale of such a project, the French looked to their northern neighbours and put a Belgian company in charge of the engineering side of things.

The Brussels-based company with major construction projects all around the world “takes particular pride in building the iconic Saint-Denis Pleyel station” with a 34,000 square metre surface area spread across no less than nine levels.

Four metro lines will eventually serve the station, which is located near the Stade de France where the athletics and rugby categories will take place. In addition, it is near the Olympic Village and the Olympic Aquatics Centre.

It’s nice to see some Belgian savoir-faire involved in the preparation for the olympics. By the way, have you seen our series on the Belgian athletes represented in Paris?
