A dazzlingly Belgian spectacle for the opening of the Grand Egyptian Museum

A magnificent show involving an illuminating light display reflecting Belgium's expertise lit up the long-awaited inauguration ceremony for the Grand Egyptian Museum, in the presence of King Philippe.

The Giza site in Cairo is home to the three pyramids of Khufu, Khafre and Menkaure. At their feet stands the Grand Egyptian Museum, a colossal construction costing over 1 billion euros. It has finally opened its doors to the public and the occasion called for a ceremony of equal grandeur.

To add a touch of sparkle to the grand opening of the building, constructed by Belgian company BESIX, in collaboration with its Egyptian partner Orascom, a spectacular light show presented by the Belgian visual creation studio Dirty Monitor illuminated the celebrations. This creation studio, based in Charleroi and in operation since 2004, is a pioneer in the conception and realisation of architectural video mapping, with scenic backgrounds, interactive scenographies, and live performances.

Belgium's expertise dazzled all 80 foreign delegations in attendance, including a number of heads of State and our very own King Philippe.

Visitors from all over the world can now stroll through all 62,000 m2 of the exhibition, the equivalent of nine football pitches, in this Belgian showcase dedicated to ancient Egyptian civilisation!
