Brussels is the world’s number one city for international conferences
The Belgian capital plays host to more conferences than any other city in the world, according to new research.
The Union of International Associations (UIA) gathered data on conferences from across the globe and found that no less than 708 of these took place in Belgium in 2023. An impressive 620 of those were held in the capital, more than anywhere else in the world. In Belgium, the city is followed by Ghent (15), Leuven (14) and Bruges (10).
In fact, the Belgian capital has been in the global lead over the past twenty years. This should come as no surprise, as nearly 2,500 international organisations have their headquarters in Brussels.
Brussels hosted far more conferences than other major metropolises like Vienna (298) and Tokyo (226), the cities in second and third place respectively.
