The Brussels public transport organisation STIB’s new digital information panels have been awarded the Red Dot Award for Production Design, an international recognition.
A good design often includes a nod to some thing or another. In this case, the new information panels feature natural curve shapes reminiscent of the Art Déco style that graces the streets of Brussels. They’ve been incorporated into the urban scenery over the last two years. The Art Déco-inspired curves are also visible in the design of the metro carriages, by the way.
The ubiquitous letter M at every metro entrance designed by Jean-Paul Emonds-Alt in 1976 has remained unchanged, but the packaging around it has been updated for the new world, with a nod to the old.
