Brussels and Liège among the top 15 for most satisfied employees

31/03/2016

Two Belgian cities are among the top 15 cities where people are the most satisfied in their jobs. This was demonstrated by the ‘Perception of Quality of Life in European Cities’ report published by the European Commission.

Brussels ended with a score of 77%, in 7th place. With 76% Liege lies in 12th place. The top 3 are Graz (Austria), Zurich (Switzerland) and Reykjavik (Iceland).

It is striking that the list is not topped by one of the large political or financial centres. In general it appears that job satisfaction differs significantly between the various cities. French cities tend to score well in general. Indeed Rennes, Paris, Bordeaux and Strasbourg are all in the top fifteen. In southern Europe, particularly in those areas found at the heart of the debt crisis in the euro zone, the figures are far less positive.

The research carried out by the Commission is repeated every 3 years, and has been ongoing since 2004. This time over 40,000 people were questioned in 79 cities and 4 metropolitan areas across all EU countries, together with Iceland, Norway, Switzerland and Turkey.
