British 'World's 50 Best Restaurants 2024' awards 2 Belgian restaurants
Michelin temples Bozar in Brussels and Willem Hiele in Oudenburg are ranked 63 and 83, respectively, in the comprehensive 51-100 ranking of the British World's 50 Best Restaurants 2024.
In 2024, as many as 1,080 British experts assessed the richness and variety of the culinary landscape worldwide. This provided a snapshot by culinary reviewers, chefs, restaurateurs and well-travelled foodies. They also gauge gastronomic trends. The initiative originated in 2002 and has been steadily gaining popularity ever since.
Belgium is receiving two awards this year. With Bozar in Brussels, housed in Victor Horta's magnificent 1928 Art Deco building Palace of Fine Arts. Managing director Karen Torosyan secured his first Michelin star in 2018 and his second in 2023. He now ranks 63 in the British rankings. Willem Hiele, chef of the restaurant of the same name in Oudenburg, also receives an award. He works exclusively sustainably, and with daily fresh fish and agricultural products from local farmers. He can be proud of place 83.
We are curious to see if any of their compatriots will soon feature in the actual World's 50 Best Restaurants 2024, and if so, who that will be.
