The Belgians have taken the top spot in the Global Workforce Happiness Index, which indicates the happiest employees in the world. The Swiss company Universum surveyed 250,000 employees in 55 markets and examined factors such as employee satisfaction in the current role, loyalty towards the employee, the likelihood that the employee would change their job in the near future and the willingness of the employee to recommend their current employer to someone else.

Belgium's top position in this league table is also confirmed by the Eurofound survey on employment conditions (European Working Conditions Survey), which shows that 90% of Belgian employees are happy with their conditions.

In the top-10 of the happiest employees, Belgium is followed by Norway, Costa Rica, Denmark, South Africa, Austria, Switzerland, Greece, Czech Republic and Russia. At the bottom of the list, we see Morocco, Nigeria and Japan.
