10/07/2020

Due to the many Belgian start-ups that have stood out in their response to the COVID-19 crisis, Belgium is the leading European country in terms of innovations designed to respond to the coronavirus crisis.

The COVID-19 report on innovation, compiled by the UNAIDS Health Innovation Exchange which ranks 32 countries according to their contribution to innovations in the fight against the coronavirus, placed Belgium in fourth place, behind the United States, Canada and Israel. In terms of city rankings, certain Belgian cities have excelled in terms of innovation, such as Antwerp, Brussels, Ghent and Leuven.

Among the companies that were widely praised were Ergotrics from Antwerp with its inflatable ventilation cushions for intensive care units, Lasercut.be in Ghent recognised for its manufacture of screens and face protection, and Materialise in Leuven.  Using 3D printing, this start-up has created a whole range of accessories, including one that allows you to use a door handle with your arm to reduce virus transmission.

Belgian start-ups continue to innovate daily in their own field to provide their response to the COVID-19 crisis. Their efforts place Belgium at the forefront of European leaders in terms of innovations in the race against the coronavirus.
